Our Vision and Mission
We have come together to cultivate and nourish a diverse, community-driven foodshed that honors the sacred sun, soil & water by growing a vibrant farm-village and inspiring the propagation of symbiotic, sustainable living solutions.
Two of our thirteen acres in El Sobrante, California will serve as the site for a rental-based EcoVillage community of approximately 40 community members and a community education center. We will build a self-governing cooperative housing community to raise families & share resources. These beautiful green homes will demonstrate the most energy-efficient, non-toxic, natural building practices while generating the revenue needed to pay off construction and development loans.
Three acres will be restored with native species and preserved as a wilderness refuge to honor and nourish the freshwater spring and creek that runs through the land.
Eight acres will support two extraordinarily diverse farms: Planting Justice operates a four-acre farm with over 2,000 fruit trees and an abundant understory of edible plants, berries, flowers, and herbs. Another organization or two will operate another four acres to develop a series of interconnected land-based projects that will create an opportunity for beginning farmers to collaborate with immigrant and indigenous communities.
Together, our growing practices will regenerate the local watershed and engender self-reliance. We will support a local, artisanal economy to harvest & alchemize the abundance of the land and its people. By propagating and preserving locally habituated & heirloom crops, we will serve as a refuge for species diversity. It will be a place to help others replicate this work through educational programs and strategic support. Innovation and modeling true sustainability will be an ongoing intention of community action.
